 The NFL UnitesYesterday, the NFL took a stand for unity by kneeling, locking arms and not taking the field during the National Anthem. This protest was not against the military. We appreciate them for their service and everything they do to keep our country safe. This demonstration was to protest racial injustice in the United States.
The message: We are one voice, one mind, and powerful when we unite. On September 25, 1789, the United States Congress passed the Bill of Rights to protect individual liberties. They ratified it December 15, 1791. According to the Bill of Rights: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” In simple terms, the First Amendment guarantees the right of free expression. These rights include freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. We cannot dictate how someone chooses to express themselves, especially when it's peaceable. So, if NFL players want that expression to be kneeling, locking arms and not taking the field, it is their choice.
