7 Ways of Leading

7/7/2020

Energy Leadership is both a form of leadership and the actual process of using your energy in a way that works for you rather than against you. Some life experiences have a "catabolic effect" on you, meaning they bring your energy down and limit your sense of options. Other experiences have an "anabolic effect," meaning they elevate your energy level and give you a sense of freedom, choice, power, and fulfillment. Every thought you have comes with energetic consequences. Over time, catabolic energy can harm you, while anabolic energy heals or builds you up.

We experience energy in seven ways based on our emotions and the intentions and belief system behind them. These energy levels reflect how we lead our people. We lead:
  1. As victims who don't take action.
  2. Angry and in conflict.
  3. By taking responsibility for our actions.
  4. In service to our employees and customers.
  5. By seeing opportunities to grow in every situation.
  6. Using our intuition.
  7. As a person of power who is a creator, participant, and observer of their life all at the same time.

Tips to Find the Right Job for You

A lot of times, when tragedy strikes, we learn what's important. 2020 has given us all time to reflect, especially when it comes to working. So, if you're in the market for a job, here are a few things to consider:
  • Know your current situation and what you want from a job today v. before. Do you need more money, benefits, or flexibility? Knowing the answer to this question is key to long-term happiness and success.
  • What type of culture do you need to thrive and grow? Do you like fast-paced, high energy environments? Or something more relaxed? If you don't know, take an assessment like the Gallup StrengthsFinder to find out.
I recently took the assessment and found out my top find strengths are:
  1. Relator. Enjoy close relationships with others.
  2. Strategic. Create different ways to get things done.
  3. Futuristic. Inspired by what could be.
  4. Achiever. Work hard with a great deal of stamina.
  5. Maximizer. Focus on strengths and transforming into something superb.
What you do, where you do it, and who you do it with is vital for success, so before you plunge back in, think through what you need and then proceed.

I had the pleasure of talking to Dr. Aparajita Jeedigunta, or AJ as I call her on her podcast LEGUpward Inclusion Spotlight: Making the Invisible Visible.

I met AJ through the ICF Reciprocal Peer Coaching Program last year. AJ specializes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). We talked about DEI and Leadership Development.
